Happy 25th Birthday Windows 1.0 :)

Isn’t it amazing? 25 years ago (1983) on this very day, Microsoft Announced Windows 1.0. What an amazing advance in both software, hardware and technology as a whole in just a quarter of a century. It wasn’t yet available for sale (not until 1985), but as you can see -not many things change. We’re still waiting for Windows 7 .

What’s even more amazing is the amount of accumulated wealth for Bill Gates (and anyone who was smart to invest into this “new thing” 25 years ago).

Windows, here’s to you and to 25 more. Hopefully, Windows 7.0 comes out glorious next year, and Windows 14 on your 50th birthday .

Tired of the same old wallpaper? Get Desktoptopia for Free!

I find it important to have a nice fresh desktop wallpaper on my screen; it sets the whole mood for me. While good wallpapers are hard to find, there is a really cool app called Desktoptopia which does exactly what it’s name implies; it creates a Desktop Utopia for you by providing you with the best, high quality wallpapers you have ever seen.

What’s even better, not that long ago they released a PC version too so you do not have to have a Mac in order to use it .

Head over to: http://www.desktoptopia.com/ and get your new favorite app for either Mac or PC. I think you will like it!

The best (visual) CSS Editors for Mac and PC, period.

As a web developer/designer I do a lot of CSS almost every single day. If you are a pro or just starting with CSS you may have noticed it takes a bit of time going back to the file, making a change, refreshing to see the results, etc.

Mac users were taken care of earlier than PC users with the program called CSSEdit. It introduced Live Preview, where you see the changes to your site immediately while modifying the style sheet properties on the side. It also has a tool called “X-Ray” which lets you mouse-over the elements on the page in order to quickly identify it’s counterpart in the CSS file.

If you are looking for great CSS editing on a Mac, look no further. CSSEdit is it!

When it comes to PCs, things were not the same until recently when I discovered Stylizer! It’s developers claim it’s “The only Visual CSS Editor Done Right“, and I can attest - IT IS! Sincerely, it’s even better than CSSEdit and it finally allowed me to move from Mac for my CSS editing back onto a PC where I do all my web development.

It’s easy to use, comes with a WONDERFUL tutorial which teaches you EVERYTHING there is to know about the software right out of the box, you can do almost anything just by using your keyboard, it has options similar to CSSEdit’s X-Ray which let you identify the elements within the page and assign CSS Classes to them instantly, and the best of all: It has a drop-down which lets you choose between FireFox and IE on the fly, so you can immediately know how your site behaves on these two browsers.

Sincerely, it has become an invaluable tool to my web development.

The best feature of all: it lets me save the Style Sheets straight from the application onto a local file, and onto a server via FTP or SFTP.

It has even a built in support for “CSS Hacks”, letting you easily specify different behaviours for different browsers, right in the CSS, without need to know much about it.

While pricier at $69.99, I’d get it twice if I had to.

With these two - you will be set, I promise (especially with Stylizer!).

New version of Digsby available!

All of us use some kind of instant messenger, from MSN Messenger, AIM, Yahoo Messenger to Google Talk and more. Furthermore, most of us have at least one account on social networks like: FaceBook, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc.

Now to continue - we all have email accounts, some of us, multiple accounts.

There is one application which lets you connect to all of these simultaneously, it works great, looks really HOT, and it even has some very cool features like the ability to answer the chats straight from the notification bubble that comes up - without need to even switch from the application you are in at the moment.

Sincerely, Digsby is one of the best, most configurable applications every computer should have installed. The new version, dubbed Build 32, is a massive update to an already perfect program: they optimized it so it uses 75% less RAM than the previous one, elements draw faster (the application is twice as fast), and they fixed a bunch of bugs (which I never encountered).

Without further ado, please get yourself Digsby from Digsby.com, and see the list of latest changes and happy user comments at: http://blog.digsby.com/archives/53. The software is absolutely FREE!

Check out the screen shots, isn’t it a beauty?
